In the ongoing cyber battle, our past successes serve as our driving force. Over the years, the Philippines has made significant progress in global cybersecurity rankings, climbing eight notches in the United Nations Global Cybersecurity Index. Market growth projections further reinforce this momentum, with the cybersecurity sector expected to reach US$269.10 million in 2025, growing at an 11.02% annual rate over the next four years, according to Statista Market Insights. By 2028, the market is projected to expand by 13% to $387.10 million, as reported by the International Trade Administration.

New year, new role. As I begin my journey as President of the Information Security Officers Group (ISOG), I look forward to 2025 and the many opportunities for our organization, industry and the nation this year.

These figures highlight the rising demand for cybersecurity solutions as well as ISOG’s critical role in advancing capabilities of the sector. Likewise, these numbers are a testament to the need to further strengthen our collective efforts as information security professionals, in collaboration with the government and our institutional partners. They stress the need for our commitment and find the inspiration for us to continuously push forward with the right strategies, ensuring that we continue to achieve a more secure cyber landscape.

Our nation remains to be a prime target for cybercriminals, ranking third among countries most affected by web threats in 2024, according to Kaspersky.

We have made remarkable progress, but we still have a long way to go.

This reality underscores a fundamental truth: we cannot afford complacency. Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, and our defenses must evolve even faster. It is for this reason that, as I take on the role of president, I bring with me a deep commitment towards strengthening ISOG’s efforts to be a major contributor to our nation’s cybersecurity posture.

At ISOG, we uphold the values of Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence—principles that drive our mission to fortify cybersecurity defenses and enhance knowledge-sharing, thus, cultivating proactive leadership among our members.

We aim not only to expand our network of institutional partners but also to empower every member to take a more active role in shaping our collective cyber resilience.

To achieve these goals, it is my honor to lead ISOG in another year of strengthening cybersecurity in the Philippines. Our flagship program, I Am Secure, is now in its 8th year. This 2025, we look forward to another series of high-impact events designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing across industries and government sectors.

This year’s journey begins on April 24 with the I Am Secure Opening Ceremony at Yuchengco Museum—an exclusive gathering of ISOG members and key representatives from BSP, DICT, NPC, DOF, AFP, Naval Forces Reserve, fellow cyber advocates such as ISACA, ITIP, Rootcon, and other stakeholders. Following this, we will hold I Am Secure Forum 1 on June 19 and Forum 2 on August 7, both at Makati Diamond Residences, to advance cybersecurity discussions and solutions.

On October 2, ISOG will host ISOGx Season 3 at SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, BGC— an event inspired by TEDx, featuring high-impact presentations on emerging threats and practical cybersecurity tools. To strengthen camaraderie among stakeholders, ISOGoke + Shootfest will take place on November 20 as a thanksgiving gathering. Finally, in December 2025, ISOG will launch new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at fostering community development and cybersecurity education.

It is with pride that I share this year’s aspiration to initiate more member-focused activities that shall provide the means with which to enhance leadership skills in the field of information security. This is in line with the BSP’s desire to develop the governance and management capabilities of CISOs in the banking industry; this serves as a manifestation of what is in store for members who come from other industries.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to my predecessor, Mr. Archie Tolentino, who has led ISOG as President from 2019 to 2024. Under his leadership and expertise, ISOG has grown into the formidable organization it is today—one that is recognized for its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity in the Philippines. His vision and dedication paved the way for our many achievements, and while I will now take on the role of President, I am grateful that he will continue to guide us as Chairman of ISOG. His insights and strategic direction will remain invaluable as we move forward.

As leaders of this organization, we stand firm in our belief that we can achieve more for our country because we are backed by a community of committed and highly competent members. ISOG thrives because of the dedication and expertise of its people—professionals who work tirelessly to safeguard our digital landscape and protect businesses, institutions, and individuals from ever-evolving cyber threats.

Cybersecurity is not just an industry concern; it is a shared responsibility. In a world where cyber risks continue to grow in complexity, collective action is more critical than ever. Through I Am Secure 2025, ISOG reaffirms its mission to protect, educate, and empower. Together, let us build a safer, more cyber-resilient Philippines—one that is equipped to face the digital challenges of today and the future.
